I Love My Hair!

This Sesame Street clip is so cute and definitely a must for little chicas to embrace their natural hair! I wish this video came out when I was little girl.

Two Strand Twists

Here I am with my freshly done two strand twists. People are always asking me who does my hair. Me of course! I know chicas are always looking for someone that twists hair. Maybe it is time I consider offering my services. That would be nice. I would have reasonable prices and quality service. : )

Happy Monday!

I must say I had an interesting weekend...going out on Friday night, working nonstop this weekend, and shopping to my merriment. Now, about my going out Friday night...I had fun with one of mis chicas, but I don't think we'll be going there again...we'll stick to the 23 and up crowd. Children these days need to learn how to dress and how to dance. I couldn't believe my eyes as to what some of those girls were wearing (a shirt as a dress is a no no...if you're underwear can be seen, you have no business being out). It's so ridiculous how those boys just wait to catch their prey on the dance floor too (girls you know you better watch out). Enough of my ranting, I need more Friday nights out with mis chicas. That's the best way to spend the evening being single and fabulous. I finally got to wear a skirt I had bought last year from Forever 21.

I wore this dress to see Corinne Bailey Rae in concert at the House of Blues on my birthday! I accessorized with a belt, dangling earrings, a few bangles, and a mint rose ring. Check it out on Forever 21's website!

Blueberry Tea Cake

I baked a lovely blueberry tea cake from the Sono Baking Company Cookbook. Baking was a much needed relief to get my mind off other things. There is nothing like baking to bring you joy! It is ideal for breakfast, and I know my siblings will definitely be devouring it in the AM.

I Love Target!

Almost everytime I go into target, I buy something...pajamas, earrings, a purse, a skirt, a dress, the list goes on and on. Target sparks my shopaholic tendencies. Like today, I bought a cute pajama set for $7 and two pajama shorts each $5 (one for me and one for my sister). The other day I bought a cute Mossimo skirt for $9.98 and a Converse dress for $12.48. I love going through the 30% and 50% sale racks! If you're looking for cute things at a great price, head to Target!

Sweet Thoughts

Are you happy? If you're not, go after what truly makes you happy. Don't settle for average. It just won't work. Do what is best for you, that inspires you to be you and puts a twinkle in your eyes. Pursue the gifts and graces God has placed within you. Work it out boldly and let your light shine.

Do you keep putting things off that you could definitely do right about now if you kept a clear focus? I couldn't agree more! Sometimes, I wonder what I am doing...I could have fit in some cake decorating time today if I only stayed off facebook lol. It happens....just one of those days, but time is of the essence. Wishing time would go sloooowerrrrrrrrrrrrrr though. I find that making a list helps and set up the tasks in order of significance. If you feel a distraction coming on, shut the computer down, whatever it takes to do what you need to do. Procrastination is a troublemaker!

Just wanted to share some sweet thoughts. May they keep you pressing on.

Amazingness!

I just came across a Christian music group, Soulfruit. Check them out! I may have to visit the church they will be ministering at this coming Sunday. It's so refreshing to see young people living it up for Jesus!

Posing for the camera in the dress

I really LOVE buying dresses, especially for the summertime. Macy's, Forever 21, and Delia's have been my to go places for the cutest and chic dresses for this summer of 2010. It's okay to indulge in retail therapy ever now and then.

I Love Love Dresses!

This dress sure is a fit for springy weather! I tried it on last week and loved it, but just don't see where I could wear it. It's kind of short, but it can certainly be paired with tights.

Higher Than This by Ledisi

Absolutely love this song and the entire album Turn Me Loose! Her music certainly bridges the gap...she shares her love for God and shows how His love never changes versus the changes of mankind. Hmm may go into more detail about this later...I certainly haven't blogged in a while.

Some Inspiration for the Day

The question is not "How am I to find God?" but "How am I to let myself be found by him?" The question is not "How am I to know God?" but "How am I to let myself be known by God?" And, finally, the question is not "How am I to love God?" but "How am I to let myself be loved by God?" God is looking into the distance for me, trying to find me, and longing to bring me home.

My Plea to Girls Everywhere

Little girls everywhere please stop listening to the lies of trifling/lame boys, they are no good for you, respect yourself, know that you are a gem, and pursue your dreams, not some lame boy's fantasy. Please, I urge you, don't get caught up in foolery.

Wake Up

Fonzworth Bentley's take on Black History Month, very much liking his take because it is a given that folks need to wake up and take the legacy of their forefathers seriously, living nonchalantly and in ignorance will never be the formula for success.

Blood Done Sign My Name

I'm going to see this movie (not just because my dream boo Nate Parker happens to be in it)...I just happened to be browsing for movies to see this weekend and I came across the trailer for the movie...a must see, it's based on a true story and a book was written by a history professor, Timothy Tyson. Here is a synopsis: "In 1970 Henry Marrow, a black Vietnam veteran, is murdered by a local white man, Robert Teel, and his sons. The Teels were acquitted by an all-white jury, which caused riots and arson in Oxford, N.C."
I'll definitely have to read the book after I see the movie of course.

The Classy List

 First Lady Michelle Obama

I simply loved her plum colored dress for President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address. I'm convinced her favorite color is purple. Her style and character is classiness at its finest. She will always be my inspiration.

Sweetheart Belted Dress from Forever 21

This dress is oh so lovely. I bought it the other day and wore it to work with some black tights. It goes a little above the knees (yeah...short), but it's still chic and only $24.80, gotta love Forever 21.

The Sea by Corinne Bailey Rae

Corinne's newest album is a blend of joy and melancholy. I'm listening to the whole album right now for the first time (the whole album is on Myspace). My favorite songs so far are The Blackest Lily and Closer

Beyonce's Fragrance, Heat

I just happen to have a free sample of this fragrance. I love the smell! It will be at Macy's exclusively in February, just might have to buy me a bottle..a Vday's present to myself. : )

The Latest

I'm just sharing the latest things I'm interested in for the most part, so here goes.

Raheem Devaughn's Mix Tape...Mr. February aka March Madness
I absolutely love it...a compilation of remixes, remakes, and so forth. The great thing about it is that it's absolutely free!!! The mixtape is a prelude to his upcoming album, The Love and War Masterpeace, coming out 3.10.10.

Ledisi's Albums...Turn Me Loose and Lost and Found
I really started paying close attention to her music in December after listening to her Christmas album (pretty amazing, extraordinary, continually on repeat. Turn Me Loose is her latest album and Mr. Raphael Saadiq helped in the production of the album, so it's definitely something I love. Lost and Found is just what I've been needing to hear. Her voice is rich and soulful, and her hair is pretty much amazing.

Let's Talk About Pep
This is my favorite show right now. I can't wait til the next episode. It's pretty much about Pep (from Salt and Pepa) and her single life with her single friends and their dating lives. Every week they get together for brunch and catch up on what happened on their dates. You can't help but get in on the fun!

Just May Go See This Movie on V-Day...

I think I would rather enjoy this movie since I enjoy watching cute lovey dovey stuff! Comes out 2.12.10...and of course it's called Valentine's Day...a great movie for a Girls' Night Out. : )

Pray for Haiti

I was so shocked to hear that 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti. I am in such a disbelief at this tragedy, and I'm praying for my dear friend Stephanie Jean Charles who has been taken away in this tragedy. She had such a sweet and beautiful spirit. She will be missed, but I know she is dwelling in heaven above. I'm praying for this nation, for all the families and friends, that God will supply their needs during this difficult time. May hope and joy be restored to Haiti and may God give them comfort in their suffering. Please lift up your prayers. Love one another in love and be reminded of how precious our time here on earth is.

She waits for you...

Somi's songs are inspiring my blog entries. I just may be on the verge of having patience with this guy. He is a nice guy and all, but I have yet to meet him in person and you would expect that he would be calling me on a regular basis if he wanted to get to know me better. Well, that is not the case because he is rather shy and doesn't know how to speak to girls (so I've been told by the matchmaker). I'm going to need him to do a better job though and take the initiative. I don't mind calling him every now and then, but this is just getting old and I need to spend my time effectively. For the meantime this relationship is just where it needs to be...a friendship. There will be no progession of this relationship until I actually have the opportunity to meet Mr. Tallyboo (so I shall call him hehe). No telling where it will go, but she waits for you Mr. Tallyboo to open up and be in pursuit. I feel like this story is relevant to other young ladies out there, so I had to tell it. I know it can be frustrating and confusing at the same time to be single and waiting for your Prince Navine to come along. It will take time, so enjoy the time you have to grow as a young lady in the process.

Listen to Somi

While listening to NPR the other day, I heard about an artist that I am bound to love. Her name is Somi. I haven't listened to all the songs on her album yet, but I love the sound...a blend of jazz and soul, drawn upon African rhythms. Check out the story on NPR about her latest album, If the Rains Come First. I will definitely be buying this album in the near future.

Happy Tuesday in the New Year!

Hey everyone, Happy New Year! I can't believe it's been a decade. Time does fly. Well, being a new year and all, people out there have resolutions. I like to make a list of things I would like to do and improve/change for the new year. After reading an article on Boundless, I thought it would be good idea to share these questions from the article...give you some thought on what you desire to see for yourself in the new year. Here goes:
  • What would you like to have accomplished?
  • How can you improve your relationships, school work, or professional work?
  • What purchases would you like to make?
  • Where would you like to travel?
  • What growth/change would you like to see in your spiritual life, professional life, social life, and physical well-being?
  • What things do you enjoy most; what are your favorite things?
  • What things do you wish you could stop doing?
